About Marlie

Marlie McGovern is an essayist and contemplative educator.

She is fascinated by the relationship of body and mind to words and creative potential. Marlie approaches writing and reading as embodied contemplative practices, alongside yoga and meditation. She offers workshops and one-on-one study in meditation, creative writing, and restorative yoga. Her teaching philosophy centers on discovery, exploration, and connection.

Marlie holds an MA in Arts Administration from New York University and an MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics from Naropa University, and has taught writing at The Loft Literary Center, St. Catherine University, Naropa University, and the Colorado School of Mines. She has taught meditation and yoga widely, including at Tibet House U.S. and New York University, and has nearly fifteen years of experience teaching contemplative practices and mentoring contemplative educators.

Marlie is the author of A Body Made of Eyes: Contemplative Essays, published by the women-run small press Wisdom Body Collective. Her reviews of books by contemporary women authors have appeared in Rain Taxi and CALYX.
